Tasks & Frost Date Scheduling
How MyVeggieGarden auto-generates garden tasks from milestones and your local frost date — so you always know what to do and when.
Tasks tell you what needs doing in your garden and when. They're auto-generated from your plants, milestones, and frost date — no counting backwards on a calendar.
How it works
You set your frost date once (from your zip code or manually). For each plant you're growing, the app looks at its milestones and growing method, applies the frost offsets, and generates a timeline of tasks.
| Milestone | Frost offset | If last frost = April 15 |
|---|---|---|
| Start seeds indoors | -42 days | March 4 |
| Harden off | -7 days | April 8 |
| Transplant outdoors | +14 days | April 29 |
Different growing methods produce different sequences. Seeds Indoors generates three tasks. Direct Sow generates one. Transplant generates one.
Task completion = logging
Completing a task and logging are the same action. Check off a task, add your notes, and a planting log is created — tagged to that milestone. It also works in reverse: logging a milestone auto-completes any matching task.
No double-entry. One action, both records.
The task timeline
Tasks appear chronologically in the Act column on the Plan page. This is more useful than grouping by plant, because your garden work happens in time — on any Saturday you might start tomato seeds, transplant peppers, and direct-sow lettuce.
Completed and skipped tasks stay hidden so you can focus on what's next.
